About Clara
What exactly is Clara?
Clara is an AI voice companion with an expressive, synthetic voice. She’s made for thinking out loud, following a tangent, and enjoying a conversation.
Is Clara a real person?
No. Clara is an AI companion with a synthetic voice. She can be warm and expressive, but she isn’t a person, a therapist, a doctor, a lawyer or an emergency service. If you’re in crisis, contact your local emergency services.
Can I interrupt her?
Yes. Talk over her and she stops mid-sentence and listens, the way a person would. She waits while you think, and she’ll cut in when she has something to say.
Who builds Clara?
Two people. No investors, no ads. Clara is operated by Signal Market Intelligence Incorporated in Canada, and every pass goes to the GPU servers she runs on and the time it takes to build her.
Can I run Clara locally?
Not yet. Custom local builds, set up for you and running on your own hardware, are one of the ideas founding members can vote on after the beta. See the roadmap.
Calls
How do I talk to her?
Open Clara in your browser and choose Talk or Type. Talk uses your microphone; Type lets you write while Clara replies with voice and captions. You can switch during the same call. An internet connection is required.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Clara runs in your browser. Headphones are recommended when you talk by voice.
How long is the free trial?
About three minutes, with no account and no sign-in. Trials are subject to capacity and fair-use limits, including a limited number of trials per network address over a rolling period, so a shared network may share that limit.
What if all the lines are busy?
Calls connect when a line is available. If every line is busy, you’ll see a message and can try again shortly. For signed-in accounts, time spent waiting in the queue doesn’t use your minutes.
What happens if my connection drops?
On paid calls, a short connection drop can reconnect to the same conversation. That covers brief interruptions, not refreshing or closing the page. If the call can’t recover, you’ll see how to start again.
Accounts & pricing
What does a free account include?
Up to 30 minutes of connected conversation time each day, with no payment needed. The allowance resets on the published daily schedule. Memory stays off on free calls.
What is the Founding pass?
A one-time USD $19 purchase for unlimited conversation time for 30 days after your payment is confirmed. It’s not a subscription. One active call at a time, subject to availability, with optional browser memory. See the Founding pass.
I already have a paid pass. How do I use it?
Paid calls have no minute cap while your pass is active. If your pass was bought on the old beta site, link it from the same browser, then sign in.
Can I get a refund?
If we can’t provide the access you bought, we’ll refund the purchase. Chargebacks or full refunds may end the pass. Your non-waivable consumer rights still apply. Details are in the Terms.
Does supporting Clara buy extra time?
No. Optional support contributions help cover server costs and development, but they don’t buy access, minutes or other benefits unless we clearly say otherwise at checkout.
Memory & privacy
Does Clara remember me?
Not on trial or free calls: those aren’t saved as long-term memory. With the Founding pass you can turn on optional browser memory. Your notes stay in that browser until you clear them, and they’re sent to Clara during later calls only while memory is on.
What happens to my trial conversation?
A guest trial doesn’t add your chat to a lasting profile. Working data and operational logs are kept only while reasonably needed to run and secure the service, then deleted or anonymized. The Privacy Policy has the specifics.
Do you sell my data or train on my conversations?
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context advertising. We don’t use guest-trial conversations to train foundation models.
What cookies do you use?
Only the ones needed to run Clara: sign-in, Founding checkout and security. No advertising or analytics cookies today.
How do I get my data deleted?
Send a privacy request. Tell us the email you used, if any, and roughly when you used Clara. We may need to confirm you control that email first.
Help
Who can use Clara?
Adults 18 and older (or the age of majority where you live, if higher).
How do I get help?

Still have a question?
Email the builders. We read every note.
